How to correctly position appliances in the kitchen for greater efficiency

The kitchen is the environment we use most often. We spend a good part of our time in this room, cooking or enjoying delicious dishes. Sometimes the kitchen becomes the room where we receive our guests for a coffee, or where we collect our thoughts when we have a few free moments.

Consequently, it is very important that the kitchen is fully functional. And to have a perfectly functional kitchen you need to set it up correctly.

Whether you’re simply designing how your kitchen should look or want to renovate it to improve its condition, you’re in the right place. Here’s how you should organize your kitchen:

How to properly place large appliances in your kitchen

First of all, you should prepare a plan for the distribution of kitchen appliances. Specifically, these are stove, refrigerator and sink. They should not be very far from each other, precisely so that the cooking activity is as organized as possible.

In the showrooms you will find many ideas, but this does not mean that they are examples to follow. And this is because they are presented here without taking into account the most important rules for a functional kitchen. However, you will certainly be able to get an idea of how to organize the furniture to benefit from the greatest possible ergonomics.

There is no clear rule for arranging appliances in the kitchen. However, it is important that the hob is not too close to the hob. It also wouldn’t be a bad idea to have this order: refrigerator, counter, sink, countertop, and stove/stove. This way you can make your cooking activity much more efficient, having all the spaces you need at hand.

By organizing your kitchen in this way, you can very efficiently organize your things near the refrigerator when you return from shopping. Furthermore, by having a work surface between the refrigerator and the sink, you will have easy access to both ingredients and at the same time you can wash them easily. So when you start cooking, you’ll need a workspace right next to the stove.

If your kitchen is large, it’s not a bad idea to set up an island in the center. If, however, you have to arrange your kitchen along the wall, the distance between the refrigerator, sink and hob is the same. It is a precious rule that you must apply.

It is equally important to place the furniture as close together as possible. For example, under the sink you can place a cabinet where you will put the garbage can. But you could also put the dishwasher here. Above the sink you can place a cabinet that will serve as a dropper.

Under the work areas, however, you will need to have drawers so that all the tools you need are within easy reach. You will immediately install the hood above the stove, while the small appliances will be distributed on the worktop, depending on the space you have.

How to use all the space in your kitchen

Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to enjoy a large kitchen. You will therefore have to adapt according to the space you have. Therefore, sometimes you may consider purchasing smaller appliances. A single door refrigerator is a good example of this.

Next, you’ll need to think about the dishes you usually cook. If you don’t use the stove much, you’ll probably need to keep your blender and mixer handy. Then, if you are vegan, you can’t miss the pressure cooker or steam cookers. However, if you love meat, you will need a high-performance stove and an electric grill.

Before distributing appliances in the kitchen, think about how often you use them. In other words, don’t take up your usable space with appliances you don’t intend to use very often. And this is because you will crowd the kitchen and therefore it will be difficult for you to carry out your business.

At the same time, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to buy high-performance and above all good quality appliances. With this veil you won’t have to change them too often, so you can maintain the desired order in the kitchen.

How to place appliances in a small kitchen

Even if you have a small kitchen, you can arrange it in such a way as to make it as functional as possible. First of all you should choose built-in appliances, because they give you more free space.

Next, you will need to decide how to place the kitchen cabinets. You can choose to mount them on a wall, in a U shape, L shape or even on both sides. Don’t forget that the hood must be close to the external wall, in order to guarantee evacuation.

The refrigerator should also be away from windows and heat sources.

Think from the start that you will have to store small appliances in accessible places. Therefore, make sure you have these places in your kitchen.

Don’t forget that you have to guarantee space for cooking and above all for serving the meal. Even if you have a small kitchen, you should leave enough space between appliances, just as we recommended above.

How to place appliances in a large kitchen

Maybe you are a much luckier person and you don’t lack space in the kitchen. In this case you will enjoy a lot of freedom in terms of kitchen design. You can choose to set up an island and it will prove to be very practical.

You can also set up a generous counter, to have space for all the ingredients. It is also possible to leave small appliances visible. The kitchen scale is a good example.

First of all, let’s start with the central element: the hob. Then, depending on its location, you can place the rest of the kitchen appliances and furniture.

Next to the stove you should have all the utensils you normally use when cooking. You can also set up a drawer just for spices. You will certainly be happy to always have them at hand.
