Muista office stool for more fun at work

Muista ergonomic office stool

Today I can introduce you to a fantastic and exciting product, brand new in the shop and also on the market and which already has great potential to become the next bestseller: the MUISTA office stool. The innovative rocking stool comes from Lithuania, has three years of product development behind it and is an ideal stool for people who sit a lot every day and move little. MUISTA offers the possibility of adopting two different sitting positions and moving while working at the desk. Prevents back pain and brings fun to stressful daily work life. But who is behind the chair and how it happened – you will find out below.

THE HISTORY

MUISTA Chair is the brand of Lithuanian designer Aurimas Lažinskas. He studied graphic design, worked as a book and magazine designer, and even tried to bring his own products to market. Together with two friends he developed a somewhat unusual product, the Eyeteleporter, which was not successful on the market. After all, he managed to land on the cover of Japanese magazine WIRED with eye teleportation.

While still making money from book design projects — and the work involved sitting for hours in front of a computer — Aurimas read an article about sitting for long periods of time and the damage it could cause. Then he came up with the exciting idea of developing a chair that would allow movement and different sitting positions while sitting, thus preventing back problems. He himself loves rocking chairs; they help him relax and leave the stressful work routine behind. So the future chair absolutely had to have the function of rocking.

Aurimas is not a qualified product designer, so the development of the MUISTA stool took almost three years, during which he learned, tried, tested and questioned a lot. On his journey he was supported and accompanied by friends who work in different fields: Vainius Markelis, a packaging designer who also studied painting, Saulius Šeštavickas, a graphic designer who also trained as a carpenter and Vilius Kiškis, a specialist in 3D graphics who also studied the creation of frescoes and mosaics. Aurimas still works with Vainius and Vilius today.

Although Aurimas had many helpers, financing the project was a difficult undertaking. In 2016 his cousin invested in the development of the stool. However, the money was only enough for a short time and in 2017 Aurimas and his guys tried to obtain financing through a Kickstarter campaign. Fortunately, as he says today, the campaign was not successful because the stool was not yet ready to actually be produced and sold. After the Kickstarter failure, Aurimas completely changed the project: the design of the stool was reworked, the collaboration with the manufacturers was realigned and there was also a change in the employees. To secure further funding, Aurimas convinced his mother to sell part of the family property so the company could continue to grow.

MUISTA in its current form was launched on the market in autumn 2018 and is now exactly what Aurimas imagined in its original idea.

Development of the Muista office stool

MUISTA – A ROCKING STOOL FOR MANY TARGET GROUPS

If you ask Aurimas who the office stool is best suited for, you won’t get a clear answer. Because, as he learned through communication and exchange with customers and visitors to the fair, there are very different people who need and appreciate the rocking stool. Initially thought that MUISTA was a perfect office stool for the home office, but in fact children, the elderly, yoga teachers, office workers and people with ADHD also like to use it because the chair helps them concentrate better.

THE FUTURE

Aurimas’ philosophy of life is to do things that no one else has done before. The focus should be on the fun factor.

He wants his company to continually grow and for the proceeds to enable the development of new products. Because for him it is important to produce as sustainably as possible, which is currently not entirely possible due to the discrepancy between desire and reality. He and his team tried many sustainable materials for the MUISTA stool, but none of them were optimal, as classic furniture materials (plywood, PU) turned out to be more resistant and durable. But Aurimas looks for interesting fairs for sustainable materials, follows local news and is immediately ready to change production if suitable «green» materials are found that continue to guarantee the current excellent quality.

In any case, the MUISTA stool contributes to supporting the local economy. The stool is made entirely in Lithuania and the wool fabric for the seat also comes from Lithuania. The plywood for the legs comes from Eastern Europe and therefore has a short route to production.

MUISTA HOCKER IM BALTIC DESIGN SHOP

Baltic Design Shop is the first German retailer of the rocking chair and after taking exactly three days to place the first order, one can assume that the office stool corresponds to the zeitgeist of the sedentary population and will be the next bestseller in the shop. The MUISTA stool is available in four colors and if you also want to do something for your health and not give up on fun, then go to the shop HERE!
