Toy ideas for children in the times of the Corona crisis

Schools and nurseries have been closed for a week and children have to stay at home. As a working mother or father, how do you keep your children occupied for three or more weeks while working from home? And how can we support, in the difficult economic situation, the creative industries that suffer most from the loss of orders? These are mainly small entrepreneurs and self-employed workers.

These questions have tormented me a lot in the last few days. That’s why today I present to you my favorite manufacturers of sensible, sustainable and original children’s toys Made in the Baltics. On the one hand, to give you, working parents, ideas to keep your children busy while you have to work. On the other hand, it is extremely important to me that small brands in the Baltic countries can generate income despite the difficult situation. Thanks for your support!

GIGI BLOCKS – Sustainable XXL Lego bricks from Latvia

My kids also played with Lego Gigiblocks when they were little. They had so much fun building towers, walls, houses or stools. The possibilities are endless with stones like this. And experts also agree that building blocks are one of the best toys ever invented.

Gigiblocks stones are made from unbleached softwood pulp. The glue used in the production of boxes is organic and consists mainly of food-grade wheat starch. Rocks are a great activity for children who have to stay at home for a long time. With the stones from Gigiblocks there is an extra bonus: the stones can also be painted!

BEHÄPPI wooden puzzle for children

This wooden puzzle comes from Estonia and is intended for all parents whose children love puzzles and for whom the number of different puzzles is slowly becoming overwhelming. HOOP wooden puzzle is available in three difficulty levels especially for kids and since you can’t remember the composition even if you do the puzzle multiple times, you can repeat the puzzle in a repeated cycle. The result: busy children and happy parents.

By the way, I also offer BeHäppi wooden puzzles as corporate gifts with the possibility of customization through my designer gift shop. You can read more about Artur Sadowski, the inventor of wooden puzzles, in this blog post.

Feltive – educational toy made from recycled felt

Feltive is an Estonian brand of children’s toys with the aim of promoting children’s creativity through felt modules. The felt elements are made from recycled fibers and allow you to create countless shapes and figures by creatively combining the elements. A toy that offers unlimited play possibilities. And it’s sustainable too. Excellent thing, in my opinion!

Krasotnieks coloring wallpaper

The Latvian company Krasotnieks offers a really effective way to keep children busy for a long time by coloring wallpaper. The four DIN A1 sheets with different landscapes are so varied that coloring them never gets boring. Once assembled, the sheets create a 170cm x 120cm wall wallpaper. The leaves must first be attached to the wall using wallpaper glue (not included) and then decorated. But they can also be simply attached as wall posters with a push pin or something similar, and then the coloring can take place on the floor.

Indoor swing by Tipitiri and Digris

Children need exercise. There is an alternative for limited freedom of movement outside: a swing in the apartment.

Estonian label Digris produces practical and lovingly made swings for babies and children that meet the highest European safety standards and are made from sustainable materials.

For slightly older children, Tipitiri, an Estonian manufacturer of bedrooms and home accessories, offers swings with a minimalist design. Swings can be attached to door frames, providing fun and variety for children and more relaxing moments for parents.

It is worth taking a look at the other products from Tipitiri, because in addition to swings they also offer other great things for the children’s room. Always handmade and always of the highest quality.

Creative wooden toys from Varis Toys

Latvians definitely know how to handle wood and therefore love wooden toys. Maybe that’s why there are so many manufacturers of children’s wooden toys in Latvia? My favorite label, Varis Toys, offers original construction sets beyond the usual toy cars and wooden bricks. Since my children own a set of wooden houses and have been playing with them for several years, I can highly recommend building sets as a way to pass the time during long hours at home. My favorite set at the moment: the architect’s building set for building a church or castle.

Beautiful dollhouses from Roosihouse

The Estonian ambassador to Germany gave me the advice for the Roosihouse dollhouses. Roosihaus is his wife, who produces these beautiful houses in collaboration with a small Estonian furniture factory. Of course, furniture suitable for dolls’ houses is also offered.

These were my recommendations for great children’s toys from the Baltics. I hope there was something that piqued your interest and that of your children. Because with every purchase you support small brands and their existence. Thanks for this!
