Poufs are not just for children or teenagers: nowadays poufs are considered modern, elegant and above all comfortable seating solutions for all population groups. Pouffes are often the eye-catcher of the room and are used in many ways, whether in the reading corner at home, outdoors on the terrace or in the office. Relaxed sitting and relaxation are guaranteed.

Advantages of a bean bag chair
The poufs stand out above all for their incomparable flexibility. Thanks to the soft padding, the bag adapts to the individual body shape and thus ensures extreme sitting comfort. Depending on the size of the ottoman, it can not only be a comfortable place to sit, but it can also provide a place for an afternoon nap.
Most importantly, bean bags can promote health. Very few pieces of furniture fit the body as precisely as an ottoman. Normally the body must adapt to a rigid and immobile chair or armchair. However, the flexibility of a beanbag can help relieve strain on the spine, back muscles and pelvis and ensure better posture in the long term.
Which pouf is right for me?
There is a wide choice of poufs: both in shape and colour, the poufs also differ in terms of padding. But first you should think about whether your pouffe should be inside or outside.

Basically every pouffe consists of two parts: fabric cover (outer bag) and filling material (usually polystyrene balls in an inner bag). Both result in a flexible piece of furniture for indoor and outdoor use. The only difference between the indoor and outdoor pouf is the quality of the fabric covering, which must be water-repellent and stain-proof for outdoor use.
An outdoor pouf is suitable for you if traditional garden furniture seems too uncomfortable or too boring to you. It allows a relaxed and healthy sitting position at the same time both outside and inside, is very light and provides that certain something in every garden. Furthermore, the poufs are easy to move thanks to their low weight.
How long does an outdoor pouf last?
With the right care, you can ensure that your pouffe stays beautiful for a long time. The weather resistance of your outdoor pouffe depends on the manufacturer and the material used. Some outdoor ottomans can withstand wind and weather all year round, but others should not be permanently exposed to moisture.
Basically, if you want an outdoor pouffe to look good for a long time, it should not be exposed to heavy rain or snow without protection for a long time. In both summer and winter it is best to store the bag in a covered place overnight. If moisture gets inside the ottoman and doesn’t have a chance to dry, the filling material may begin to mold or decompose. Even the most colorfast outer bag material will fade in the sun after a period of time.
Therefore, if you will not be using the beanbag for a long time, make sure that it is not constantly exposed to sunlight. If something happens to your ottoman, you can change both the cover and the filling material.
What padding for the pouf?
The filling is usually made of polystyrene balls. They are known by various names; with the name EPS = “expanded polystyrene” or with the more common term Styrofoam. At some point the pouffe has become flat and you have to fill it again. Most manufacturers offer refill bags with padding, so replacing or refilling is no big deal.
Whether you are sitting or lying, the centers of gravity cannot be avoided during use. This pressure causes the Styrofoam balls pressed together inside the bean bag to crumble. It happens very slowly, but continues until they are reduced to a fine powder. This usually becomes apparent as the ottoman becomes more uncomfortable and emptier over time.
Refilling the ottoman: what should you pay attention to?
The most important thing is that there is not too much filling in the ottoman. Overfilling makes the bag unlikely to deform due to lack of air between the beads.
To fill an ottoman, we recommend working with two people. Many models are large and therefore a little awkward to handle alone, so in this case multiple people are useful. Filling the beanbag must also take place in a windless place, as the beads could expand and roll away, especially due to the wind.
In general, it is absolutely not necessary to empty the entire ottoman if you like the comfort so far. However, if you want to completely change the filling, you need to carefully pour the old filling into a container of a suitable size.
Open the ottoman using the zipper or velcro closure located on the outside of the cover. Then remove the lid or release the inner bag. Alternatively, you can use a filling tube or large funnel to fill new beads into the inner bag. Finally close the pouf tightly.
Which shape for my pouf?
Poufs are available in different shapes and colors and a fundamental distinction is made between three types of shapes:
- Classic rectangular It is the most popular shape for poufs, especially for outdoor poufs. They are versatile and can be used either vertically as an armchair with a backrest, horizontally as a lounge furniture or flat as a lounger.
- driporrmigand pouf they have a round to square base that tapers towards the top. These poufs have the advantage of providing a more stable backrest than other poufs. So they are ideal for the office or for reading.
- Lounge style pouf they consist of a relatively long seat with a flat backrest. This version of the bean bag invites you to take an afternoon nap or generally relax, as it offers the possibility of lying down. The Lounge pouf is suitable for those who occasionally want to put their feet up and take a short break.
How much weight can the poufs support?
On average, poufs weigh between 7 kg and 11 kg. Enough for a person to place the bag back in the room. The poufs can be used by several people at the same time; the maximum load capacity of the poufs is on average 200 kg.
Bean bag chairs for children
Children’s bean bags offer many advantages. For example, children can sit, lie down and play on the bean bags. Thanks to the absence of corners and edges, the risk of injury is lower than with traditional furniture made of wood, metal or plastic.
Furthermore, a children’s pouffe is always an eye-catcher in the children’s room, especially with bright colours. A piece of furniture that can be endlessly reshaped encourages imagination and creativity again and again, and on average children find it easier to keep themselves occupied for longer with an ottoman.
An ideal size for children’s poufs is approximately 100 x 130 cm. With this size, children have the opportunity to sit comfortably in any position to read, play, lie down or relax.
