Bedspreads are now available in every style, size and material imaginable. In addition to plain or lined cotton bedspreads, there are bedspreads in polyester, satin, linen or a linen-cotton and wool blend. There are colorful and plain bedspreads, with or without a pattern, quilted or knitted. The sizes of the bedspreads also vary, so that the right size can easily be found for most single and double beds.
The wide choice of materials and models makes the decision on one model or another not exactly easy. It is important to ask yourself the right questions before purchasing a bedspread:
- What is the current state of my bedroom? Which colors dominate, which patterns are present?
- Which bedspread material makes sense and which do I like?
- How big does the bedspread need to be to fit my bed perfectly?
- What colors and patterns should be considered so that the bedspread fits into the existing room concept and is coordinated with the cushions, carpets and curtains?
Tip: Here’s how to find the right size for your bedspread
The bedspreads are offered in different sizes, most of which are tailored for single or double beds. However, most bedspreads are available in sizes 220×240 cm, 140×200 cm or 180×220 cm. To find the right size for your bedspread, you need to consider the following:
Think about how much you want the bedspread to hang over the edge of the bed. If you want the blanket to reach all the way to the floor, you need to add twice the height of the bed to the width of the bed to determine the appropriate width of the bedspread. If you have a bed with a closed headboard and footboard, the length of the blanket will also be the length of the bed.
What material and color should the bedspread be made of?
Those who choose a bedspread are spoiled for choice: the practical bedspread is available in all imaginable materials. There are bedspreads in linen, satin, cotton or even wool. In addition to personal preferences, another factor that plays a role in the purchase decision is whether the plaid should be used all year round or, for example, only in winter or summer.
Suggestion: Care is also important when making a purchasing decision: Bedspreads made of linen, wool or cotton can usually be easily washed in the washing machine. This doesn’t work with more unusual materials, like silk or fur. Bedspreads made of linen-cotton blend are particularly easy to care for, as they retain their shape even after frequent washing.
When it comes to colors and patterns, what matters is that the bedspread fits well with the other colors in the bedroom. While a gray or white throw pairs well with existing furniture and rugs, things can be more difficult with a red, green and blue throw or patterned accents.
